We have our “How to Use Your Telescope” class twice a year, and the next session is on Friday, 2/6/09 at 7:30 p.m.  This is a session where volunteers from our club help people learn to set up their telescopes and use them to find some objects (if the weather cooperates.  If it’s cloudy or raining, we’ll still have the class, but may have to have it inside the classroom instead of outside).  If you need some help with your telescope, please bring it to this session, which is free and open to the general public as part of our regular Beginners Astronomy Class.

We need volunteers to help people learn to set up their telescopes and learn a bit about using them – if you are familiar with any type of telescope, please come help us out!  These are really fun sessions that help a lot of people get past the initial hurdles of learning to use their equipment, and, if the sky is clear, they become a mini-star party.  If you can come help us out with, it will be very much appreciated!

The class will be in area at the back of the Heritage Museum of Orange County(formerly the Centennial Heritage Museum), located at 3101 W. Harvard, Santa Ana, CA. Harvard is about midway between Edinger and Warner, and the museum is about a half-block west of Fairview.

To get there from the south, take the 405, MacArthur, Warner or any other east/west street to Fairview, turn north (toward downtown Santa Ana), and then turn left on Harvard (the first signal past Warner). The museum is a set of Victorian buildings on the right just past a school, and the driveway is at the western end of the property. Turn in the driveway and follow it around to the back of the buildings. Please park by the Blacksmith shop or other areas away from the main parking areas, so we can have the people bringing telescopes concentrated in the main parking areas.

To get there from the north, you can take 17th St., 1st St., Edinger or other east/west streets to get to Fairview. You can get to Fairview from the 22 or the I-5, but it’s a bit tricky unless you’re going east on the 22, as Fairview ends just south of the 22 at Memory Lane/Garden Grove Blvd., so please consult a map. Go south on Fairview to Harvard (which should be the 2nd signal past Edinger), turn right.
