Additional Information M76 is a smaller version of M27, the "Dumbbell Nebula" in Vulpecula. Like its larger counterpart, it has bright lobes expanding in opposite directions (the diffuse peanut-shaped region). This bright dumbbell-shaped area is surrounded by much fainter lobes of material shed by the central star at an earlier time. To see these, click here.
