People of all ages came to the UCI observatory to look at Mars. Many of the OCA members who regularly do outreaches supplemented UCi’s 24 inch telescope. It was estimated by many of us that the attendance was in the 1000’s perhaps as many as 3000.
The public is invited to the UCI observatory on Wednesday night (Aug 27th 9-11pm) for a special viewing of Mars. The UCI Department of Physics & Astronomy will be joined by members of the OCA and their telescopes to allow the public the best possible view of Mars. Mars animation by OCA Member Marc Huber
OCA club president was quoted in a recent article published in the LA Times regarding the Mars close-approach and also the clubs involvement with a public viewing of Mars at UCI Observatory.
Every member who attended the July meeting will no doubt be very pleased to hear of the successful launch of the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) from Cape Canaveral. Our congratulations go to Dr Michelle Thaller and the whole SIRTF team from JPL.
