06/28/08 BSC star party recap

Posted On July 1, 2008

I didn’t see any meteors but we did see the Iridium Flares, low and short-lived as they were.

Saturn looked great and Mars was nearby, both in Leo. But Jupiter was spectacular and we watched moon IO move in front of the planet and make a shadow on the upper belt.

No one saw the Comet C/2006 but some said they have seen the asteroid next to Antares, but I could not spot it. I was not able to see the the Black-Eye Galaxy M64 but did spot star cluster M53 in my small ETX 125.

It was so clear that the Milky Way was visible later in the evening and the temp never dropped below 58 F. It was another fun star party night at nearby Black Star Canyon.
